Friday Funnies: Dikembe Mutombo Tribute… Number one..second blockshotter in the league
May 1st, 2009 by mt

The famous "not-in-my-house" finger.

The famous “not-in-my-house” finger.

Dikembe Mutombo is the last of a kind. I started watching basketball during the 92-93 season.  By now, most of the “established” veterans from that era has retired.  Sure, there’s Shaq, but he was just a rookie that season.  Mutombo was already a respected big man.

This past week, Mutombo, the oldest player in the NBA, sustained an injury so severe that he, at the age of 40, million years old, is calling it quits.

Mutombo is an elder statesman in the league.  He’s given back so much to his homeland of Nigeria in charity work and constant donations (teammates and coaches say he is constantly calling, soliciting donations).  He serves as a great mentor to younger player and has helped out Yao Ming in his game a lot.  He might not have been anything close to a Shaq or Dwight Howard in his prime, but he was one of the scariest shotblockers in the history of basketball… so much so that he has his own trademark finger wag. The “No! not in my house!”

Ok, so this is getting pretty morbid, especially after that video. So let’s just get to the punchline of this. Check out this next video, as Mutombo’s teammates talk about… well.. Mutombo.

This is for people who found my blog via facebook only.

In an effort to generate content YOU guys would enjoy, I’ve created this quick survey that I HOPE you guys would fill out (only once please!). It’s short and quick. It’ll take less than two minutes. I promise.

First of all, the blogs been up for a while, but how long have you been following it?

How long have you been aware of my blog?

Yeah, that got real intense, didn’t it? Just kidding.

Ok. So, I’ve been trying to find ways to get more people to read my blog. At first, I just posted on my status.  Then, more recently, I linked it via Facebook link.  Starting last night, I began to import them as Facebook notes.  There are also options such as RSS, e-mail, and facebook apps.

I would prefer to follow your blog through... [Select all that apply]

Ok, need a break? go run to the bathroom real quick. I’ll still be here when you get back.

Alright almost done.

I think one of the BIGGEST things I love when I blog (as well as everything else I do) is when people respond to it.  In the blogging sense, I mean comments.  Recently some of my posts have garnered good responses. At the same time, I was hoping the comments would go on my blog. Unfortunately, most facebook users have been posting their comments on my facebook import as opposed to on the actual blog itself.  My McBlog needs some McLovin’, which leads me to my next question.

Will you comment on my blog?

If you said yes, you’re a pretty cool guy.  If you said no, then let me do my best Donald Trump impression by puckering up my lips and saying, “Your fired.”

OK. So here’s the LAST of these tough exam questions:

Like I said earlier.  I’ve been trying to get more people to read my blog. Also, I’m hoping to retain most of you returning readers. I’ve considered going with a facebook application, such as WP-Book or the actual Word Press app for facebook. These are non-intrusive (they won’t steal your info like other apps) and they don’t slow you down. They just tell you when I updated and some might allow you to comment directly from facebook (and it’ll carry over to my actual blog). SO….

Would you consider adding a non-intrusive facebook application to keep up with my blog?

Whew. We’re done. Thank you so much for doing this.  Your opinion does matter to me.

Like always, I appreciate any type o comments, feedback, questions.  Ask me either via facebook or by my blog.

Again, Thank you friends.

Last night I tried to upgrade my blog.  There were simple step by step directions and it warned that I should backup my blog before I install the updates.  Instead of going through their lengthy back-up process, I just copied the files onto my computer thinking that’s all I needed to do.  The result: EPIC FAILED.  I lost my old blog completely and I wasn’t sure how to bring it back.  so I just started a new one. Enjoy.
